The chemical control of vector Aedes aegypti has caused social and environmental problems, while plants have developed the capacity to biosynthesize insecticidal substances. This work is based on the phytochemical study and the evaluation of the larvicidal activity of the extract and subfractions of Mandevilla moricandiana (Apocynaceae) underground organs.

Alkaloids derived from tryptophan have shown antidepressant action due to the presence of indole rings. This class of alkaloids is present in several species of plants, fungi and marine organisms. The mechanism of action is the serotonin receptor agonist and / or the inhibition of the enzyme monoamine oxidase.

Four compounds were isolated from Cedrela fissilis seeds and had their antimycobacterial, anti-inflammatory, and cytotoxicity activities investigated. Andirolide N (2) and Proceranolide (4) limonoids are reported for the first time in the Cedrela genus, limonoid 4 presented the best result for the investigated biological activities.

The species Flindersia brayleyana, belonging to the Rutaceae family, was used for a phytochemical study in this work. In the isolation, by chromatographic techniques, and identification, by spectroscopic and spectrometric techniques, of the chemical constituents of this species, we can confirm that coumarin is the main class of secondary metabolites.

Avicennia schaueriana is found in Brazilian mangroves. This paper involves the gathering of a chemical database, LC-HRMS and GC-MS analyses, and scale-up of CCC fractionation. Eight compounds firstly described in the plant were purified by CCC and elucidated by NMR.

Dry extracts have greater chemical and microbiological stability, allow greater concentration of substances, can be reproduced and standardized. The scheme shows the transformation of Clusia fluminensis fruits into dry extract in order to evaluate the extracts against some local effects triggered by the venom of the snake Bothrops jararaca.

Firstly, a factorial design determined the optimized conditions for microwave-assisted phloroglucinolysis. Then, applying the resulting protocol to the two varieties of Cocos nucifera L. husk fibers extracts produced a better result leading to a more accurate procyanidin average size determination than the conventional protocol. MALDI-TOF-MS confirmed the extract's composition.

Piper lhotzkyanum is a medicinal plant used to treat bronchial conditions among other diseases. The essential oils (EO) of the reproductive organs are rich in monoterpenes (phellandrenes and pinenes). The infructescence showed promising activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Thus, the chemical composition and antimicrobial properties of EO were reported for the first time.

Our study intended to determine the chemodiversity pattern from the essential oil of ten species and two varieties of Piper, collected in the restinga of Marambaia Island, RJ. It was possible to find correlations between their taxonomic characteristics and chemical composition. Trans-caryophyllene may be a chemodiversity standard in the Island

The main compounds present in Piper mollicomum essential oils were oxygenated monoterpenes. The observations showed positive correlation between insect visits and percentage of linalool and E-nerolidol in the inflorescences, in addition to a negative correlation with germacrene D. A negative correlation was also observed between humidity and bee visits.
